After around 10 years of running a newsletter, I’m killing it. You’ll be redirected here if you tried to land on my /newsletter page. That page is no longer working. No, you won’t stop receiving emails from me if you sign up via the forms on my site. But I’m no longer publishing my traditional newsletter.
New around here?
Yes, I did have a newsletter.
First, it was called Unstuck. Then, the Study Newsletter. Then, Farview. And finally, it’s called: Who the fuck has the time to read a bunch of links in an email? I barely have the time to breathe between meetings.
The obvious follow-up question that is probably floating on top of your head is why I’m doing it.
Let’s start with a story…
I’m sitting in a cafeteria after my workday. I’m mildly dazzled by all the pings, all the chats, and all the work-related emails I skimmed diagonally – just enough to catch the gist without actually reading the whole thing.
And while I’m signaling defeat with my posture, I get hit by a newsletter from a creative professional. This guy has spent the last 7 days carefully curating a selection of articles that will surely upgrade my life.
How do I know it’s 7 days?
Because he did send me the same type of email just a week ago – and the week before.
So, I open it up. What do I see? The same format. The same buzzwords. The same general message in slightly updated wording. The same number of links to articles. Every line is so earnestly, almost aggressively, inspiring.
But do I have the time, not to mention the bandwidth, to click through these ten supposedly must-read articles plus a bonus round of videos?
Do I have the mental stamina to digest those sugar-coated quotes – probably scraped from the first page of some random quotes site or, worse, hallucinated by an over-caffeinated AI?
Fuck no.
I don’t even have the energy to lift my beer. I’m using a straw, goddamn it.
And it’s not only this one person. There’s an entire crowd of “entrepreneurs” desperate to invade my inbox with sure-to-succeed how-to articles that will save my life in an instant if I only do this one single thing today.
So, why do you need another newsletter with “curated” articles?
I fucking don’t’. So I’m killing it.
But that’s a good thing. Let me tell you why…
Hey there, sorry to interrupt…
