Bonus Lesson 1: Questions that will help you unstuck
The following 5 questions are intended to help you during your journey of becoming a responsible internet consumer.
If you feel stuck somewhere along the way, and if you don’t know how to proceed, refer to these questions (and the answers you’ll add yourself):
Is what I’m doing, right now, helping me get what I want in the future? Asking myself “is this helping me get what I want” is one of my favorite questions when I’m navigating around the web. I’m also human. I also get sucked into the vortex of online bullshit. When I realize that I’m spending way to much time watching a video of some sort, for example, I stop and ask myself this question. If the answer is no – I do my best to quit so I can focus my time and energy on something else.
Am I doing this for Present Me or Future Me? Checking statuses and adding comments to posts is something the Present Me loves. However, these trivial activities are things my Future Me will most probably hate me for. Life is not all about work but make sure to set some boundaries and primarily focus on things for your Future You.
If I were looking back on my life, how would I want to be remembered? What would you want to be remembered for? Why? Do you really want to be remembered as a creepy social media guy/girl constantly liking pictures and commenting on other people’s posts? Or, you want to actually do something meaningful with your life?
What is the most neglected important area in my life right now? The three most important areas in our lives are the following: our health, our relationships, our financial situation – in that order. First, you need to take care of your health in order to be capable of helping your family – after all, if you’re sick, you’ll be a burden to them. Second, investing in relationships is one of the best ways to live a happy life. And third, you can’t improve the world if you’re hardly making ends meet. Once you know where you are lagging behind, look for ways to improve.
How can I make the most of the world wide web? If you work a boring job, what can you do to spice things up? There are usually two options: You can download the most talked about game on your phone and have a blast. Or, you can exceed your boss’s expectations and get a raise There are folks who worship the virtual world because it allows them to earn money, to work from everywhere they like, and to see their kids more often. Others, “take advantage” of the world wide web by chatting with friends and liking pictures. Both groups of people have the same access but clearly there’s a difference. In life, you’re either making progress or you’re falling behind. Thankfully, the way to get ahead in the 21st century is quite straightforward – make sure you’re spending your time online wisely.
